YOUNGSTOWN — A city landmark is closing its doors nearly four months after its owner went missing.
The Avalon Gardens on Belmont Avenue shut down over the weekend, according to a report from 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator's broadcast partner.
The owner of the tavern, James Donofrio, was last seen in late September.
The only trace of Donofrio has been the discovery of his truck parked near railroad tracks in downtown Youngstown.

Another Youngstown mystery. I still pray for his safe return.
Probably another addition to McKelvey Lake, unfortunately.
It has hit written all over it. Not the first time cars have turned up without their owners. Two specific hits that are reminiscent of this: the Carabbia hit and the Moceri hit in Akron. Bodies were never found, just their cars.
Hoping for the best, but it is not the first time in history this situation has happened.
They were selling 50% off gift certificates on a local website just a few weeks ago. Hope the buyers got a chance to use them!!
I am sorry to learn of the Avalon Gardens closing. I pray for some type of information regarding Mr. Donofrio, and that it comes to light for the sake of his family and workers. I know he had been fixing the place up and working on the bocci courts so everyone could have a good time there. What a shame.
I always had a nice time there; dancing, eating and having a few drinks. Their Brier Hill pizza was fabulous.
mr.sabella is rollin in his grave.
