A former township employee will fill the unexpired fiscal-officer term vacated by Michael Kurish on Jan. 5.
Township trustees voted Friday to appoint Laura Wolfe as fiscal officer through Kurish’s unexpired term of March 31.
Kurish resigned Jan. 5, citing personal reasons for his abrupt departure.
Trustee David Ditzler said Wolfe, who was the township’s accountant for a decade before leaving to raise a family about eight years ago, was the best replacement for the short-term.
“We knew she was the only person who could add value immediately,” he said. “She was interested in helping us close out the books for the year.”
Ditzler said the trustees will work over the next 21/2 months to find someone to fill the new term Kurish was elected to in November. It begins April 1.
The board hasn’t received any r sum s yet, but several people have called to inquire about the position, Ditzler said.
The Austintown fiscal-officer post is considered a part-time position, and the annual salary is $28,176.
Comments
The real question is why has Ditzler been involved in the cover-up of this situation for so long? Ditzler knew what was going on, Kurish was having an affair with another trustee for many years. The Attorney General should send BCI investigators into Austintown to find out what else has Ditzler been covering up and start questioning all of the other trustees and Kurish to see what they are covering up.
