Diocese compliant with safety policy

Published: Sat, January 14, 2012 @ 12:00 a.m.

Staff report

youngstown

The Diocese of Youngs-town has been found compliant with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People during the annual compliance audit.

The charter was developed by the USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for Sexual Abuse in 2002 in response to the sexual abuse crises in the church.

The charter was revised in 2005 and 2011.

The onsite audit, conducted by the independent firm Stonebridge Business Partners of Rochester, New York, took place in October 2011.

The audit included review of diocesan policy and procedures, and interviews with Bishop George V. Murry, priests, Catholic school principals, members of the diocesan Review Board on the Sexual Abuse of Minors, and diocesan staff.

The diocese fully cooperates with the mandates of the charter and includes charter requirements in the diocesan Child Protection Policy.

The policy includes requirements for background checks, in-service training sessions, codes of conduct, reporting procedures, help for victims and more.

Copies of the policy are available on the diocesan website, www.cathdoy.org, or by calling 330-744-8451, ext. 235.

A new brochure, “Reporting Requirements and Procedures Regarding Child Abuse,” is also available. The charter is available from the USCCB at www.usccb.org and through the link on the diocesan website.

For more information on the Diocese of Youngstown Child Protection Policy, contact Nancy Yuhasz at 330-744-8451, ext. 235.

I am pretty sure there are several victims of the Youngstown diocese who would disagree with these results.

So if you have knowledge, witnessed, or been harmed by any clergy, employee, teacher, nun, religious brother, or volunteer... please do NOT report it to the diocese, report it to law enforcement. Child sex crimes should be investigated by law enforcement no matter how long ago your abuse happened.

Also, know that you are not alone, and there is help, hope and a chance to heal and protect kids today.

It clearly is just another stall tactic while the very real problem is actually being quickly and quietly pushed aside. Again.

I like to believe that we all have enough common sense & even some business savvy as to recognize that multiple directives, refocused manuals, and even independant assessments are simply the slow call to arms when a very large organization is repurposing and develoing a new strategy. That is Business #101. If you want to strip away the immoral element, then just look at this from a purely business vantage. Ater all, the Church has coffers and income that we cannot imagine. We have a moral and financal stake, so we may call this Our Business.

Our Business could certainly learn from oher mega-organizations in the throes of a pedophiliac-induced quagmire. Think: Penn State. The staff there had far less time to react than the Our Business, and yet they are already miles ahead. Penn State leaders are working toward solving the problem now, not just placating parents or paying off victims. That old-school way of doing things is over now. We have grown and are evolving. We are a society of people with a conscience and not just hushed voices and blank checks.

It is time to stop hiding in cloaked shadows, creating cover stories for our sins, and begin in earnest making true moral restitution.

Sound familiar?
Sound Catholic?

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!

If your child attends ANY school, church, youth group or church/school related function within the catholic diocese of Youngstown, BEWARE, there is still AT LEAST one pedophile/child predator in the employ of the Youngstown diocesan framework, at a few levels. And there are those that choose to cover this up!! Talk openly about this with your kids. (I wish my parents had) Get involved in these functions if you can. Be wary, of "friends" be they priests, deacons, teachers, youth ministers, volunteers, and the like. This also includes other groups such as Boy/Girl scout leaders or any group or function where these pedophiles/child predators may slither. AGAIN, talk OPENLY with your kids, start THE WALL of protection at home. Keep them safe by being mindful and suspicious of anything that seems TOO CLOSE!!!! Their best friends and teachers should be YOU first.

If you have knowledge, witnessed, or been harmed by any clergy, employee, teacher, nun, religious brother, or volunteer... please do NOT report it to the diocese, report it to law enforcement. Child sex crimes should be investigated by law enforcement no matter how long ago your abuse happened.

Also, know that you are not alone, and there is help, hope and a chance to heal and protect kids today.
