Felon elected to Pa. city council wants seat
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — A convicted felon elected to a western Pennsylvania city council says he’ll fight for his seat despite a petition to keep him out of office.
Gary Mitchell says he never tried to hide his decade-old drug conviction leading up to November’s election. But now an emergency petition is keeping him from being sworn in.
Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa filed a petition in December to keep Mitchell from assuming his seat, calling the convictions “infamous crimes” that bar him from holding office.
Mitchell tells WTAE-TV says he was allowed to run and elected by the voters, so he should be allowed to take office now that he’s turned his life around.
Lamancusa told the New Castle News last month Mitchell is selflessly dedicated to his community, but he’s responsible for enforcing the law.
A hearing is set for Friday.

They're making a big deal over water under the bridge, yet the President of the United States was allowed to take office without proof of citizenship. And the "proof" furnished last year was proven to be a forgery.
Seems like a very small drop in the bucket by comparison.
He paid his debt to society give him his due!! There are 34,000,000 felonized Americans of which approximately 30,000,000 have done their time and paid their societal debt and are actually more honest than the current majority of elected officials in this country.
Everything is a Felony in the United States today it is time to stop the permanent disenfranchisement of these Americans. Ask yourself, do we treat Mexican felons as poorly as we do our own taxpaying Felons???? Gee guess whom takes care of American Felons family's? We do!! So let them make a living and pay taxes like the rest of us!
