Police are hoping “a couple of witnesses” who were in the area of the city’s first homicide of 2012 will be able to help police solve it.

Tre’Von Kimbrough, 18, of 3939 Rush Boulevard, was found dead at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, shot multiple times and found in the rear parking area of a vacant business at 3707 Market St. on the South Side.

Among the witnesses were customers of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles office across the street from 3707 Market Street, said Detective Sgt. John Kelty.

“They heard the shots, [went across the street], saw the victim and called police,” Kelty said.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday night. “We’re trying to piece it all together,” Kelty said.

The homicide location is just south of East Judson Avenue and about four blocks south and west of St. Dominic Church, where neighborhood block-watch members and law- enforcement officials met from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday to talk about collaborative ways to address crime.

“We’re not sure what led up to it,” Kelty said of the homicide.

Kimbrough played basketball for East High School during the 2009-10 school year, according to Vindicator archives.
