Gingrich to black people: paychecks, not food aid

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says he is willing to go before the NAACP and urge blacks to demand paychecks, not food stamps.

The former House speaker told a town hall meeting Thursday in New Hampshire that if the NAACP invites him to its annual convention this year, he’d deliver that message.

Gingrich routinely lambasts President Barack Obama as the best food stamp president in American history.

Gingrich says he’d also pitch a new Social Security program aimed at helping young African-American males. The former House speaker says they get the smallest return on Social Security.

The NAACP had no immediate comment on Gingrich’s remarks.

Eliminate welfare and these folks will quickly develop a work ethic, stop having unwanted babies, and start climbing the ladder of success. I respect Gingrich for having the courage to speak the truth on a subject other politicians avoid.

"Gingrich has insulted all black people by assuming all they care about is getting food stamps."

No, not all blacks, just the ones that abuse the system. So don't make it more then what it is.

I wonder what plans he has for the white recipients. The white recipients are costly for the taxpayer too.
While there is a significant number of blacks on welfare, they are not the only group to partake of system.
If it is about the money, then the only appropriate color to mention is green. There are many pale riders in the A B C suburbs.

You took the words right out of my mouth on this one. Newt is just appealing to the base bigot in the Republican party - the idiot with no real facts just a disdain for blacks and likely anyone who is not white.

Blacks are not even the majority on welfare. Blacks only make up 12 percent of the population, it is absurd to believe they could be the majority on welfare. There is a high percentage of blacks in the system, but if you are talking about abuse you had better be talking about whites and hispanics as well.

I expect nothing more from Newt or the panel of candidates pressented by the Republican party now. It will certainly win him votes within the party and garner support from the typical beer swilling, crouch scratching, Troglodyte in the Mahoning Valley.

The point is to demand jobs instead of entitlements. Giving people permanent welfare does not do them a service; it enslaves them to a second class life. Obama has bought the votes of the welfare and union blocks with taxpayer (& borrowed Chinese) money and while keeping him in power, is bankrupting America. The black community may vote for him on a racial basis but they should be demanding lower unemployment rates and an economy that provides more job opportunities.

Race: About 1 in 4 Black mothers of childbearing ages (1.5 million) were AFDC recipients, higher than the 7 percent of corresponding White mothers (2.1 million). Despite these differences in recipiency rates, Black AFDC mothers did not have significantly more children than their White counterparts.

Statistics from the late 90s, really?

I'm in favor of making cuts and reducing the burden of the taxpayer. Do it, for every group represented. Don't save a little, save a lot.
