Boeing to close Wichita facility by end of 2013
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Boeing Co. has told its employees that it plans to close its massive defense plant in Wichita before the end of 2013 in a bid to cut costs in a tight market for defense spending.
Wednesday’s announcement means the loss of 2,100 well-paying jobs at its Kansas facility, which was once considered the centerpiece of Wichita’s claim as the air capital of the world.
It also dashes hopes for an additional 7,500 direct and indirect jobs that the company once promised to bring to Wichita with the Air Force air refueling tanker contract.
The work will move to Boeing facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and Washington.
Job reductions at the Wichita facility are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2013.

This? After they won a $2.7b bid over Lockhead Martin to make more weapons and aircraft for the military. And he said he would create more jobs and there would be CHANGE... This is not the change we need!
@ dime again how is it his fault? So far no jobs are going are going out of country But will create more profits for stock holders That is the only thing Boeing is supose to do, make more money by cutting union jobs out. You do want to bust the union powers right.
The wars are over, our military are coming home...no more need for military equipment. Even military recruitments and re-enlistments are coming down. No sense in even having a military anymore, right? Just pack them all up and send them home, moth ball all our equipment. Better yet, cut-em up and scap them out for cash. No one will ever attack us because we got rid of all our battle equipment!
History has proven a weak nation is a defeated nation and we cannot expect others to defend us...because they won't. We are on our own here folks and we are slipping into allowing dangerous countries to flex their muscles as they test our weakened military and our political leaders' will power.
