Sen. Portman backing Delphi retirees
Youngstown
U.S. Sen. Rob Portman is pushing the Obama Administration to look into the treatment of retired Delphi salaried workers during the bankruptcy of General Motors.
Portman reached out to former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, who is now Executive Director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers, asking for a remedy for workers who lost a significant portion of their pension benefits.
Delphi workers lost an estimated 30 to 70 percent in benefits when its benefit pension plan was terminated. There are 1,500 salaried Delphi retirees in the Mahoning Valley.
Portman also submitted testimony at multiple Congressional hearings to share his concerns with the treatment of these workers.

Finally someone is going to try and help the retirees. It amazes me that it going to be a GOP member. Its not a D party member. After all , all the D party people do is talk without action. I wish Sen Portman good luck.

Delphi retirees
Not Gm retiees
HOPE THEY GET IT
redeye1, I think the key is that the salaried workers may on occasion vote for a candidate other than the token democrat. That may be why the lib politician could care less.
redvert you are probably right ! good point !!!!!!!!!
Portman is an amazing Governor. It is never about petty party politics with him... It is all about what is GOOD for ALL OHIOANS!
Nice work Senator Portman!
senator, not governor
Thank you Sen. Portman !! As Delphi retirees (I agree with Freeatlast) we greatly appreciate your efforts to fix this pension injustice which was created by the US Treasury's auto task force, the PBGC and GM for political expediency. Since their collaborative efforts created this disparity of treatment of former co-workers (now retirees) from the same organization, it is only appropriate that they be part of the solution. Last night I watched Stephanie Cutter, Obama's deputy campaign manager, applaud the GM Bailout as a success and specifically noting how there was "shared sacrifice" in the process. Well, the 20,000 Delphi salaried retirees who lost 30-70% of their earned pensions and were shameless deemed to have "no commercial value" beg to differ with this assessment. It is factually false. There is NO valid rationalization for disparate treatment, but the Auto Task Force, PBGC and GM took a different view of fairness and equity in the United States of America! ALL retirees should be concerned with the precedents set in this case, and are urged to inform yourselves, get engaged, speak out, and VOTE !!
