COLUMBUS
The head of the Mahoning County Democratic Party is among a group of Democrats going on the offensive to defend Presi-dent Barack Obama’s record.
Dave Betras has signed on to be part of the Obama campaign’s new “Truth Team,” working to counter any false assertions they believe are being made by Republicans challenging the president.
“I feel very loyal to President Obama, and I want him to know that I have his back, and the whole infrastructure of the Mahoning Valley has his back,” Betras said during a press conference in Columbus on Monday.
Betras joins about 20 Democrats statewide in the effort. Others on the list include Congressman Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, former Congressmen John Boccieri and Zack Space and Dave Green, president of UAW Local 1714 at General Motors Lordstown plant.
Those involved will be touting Obama’s accomplishments in addition to responding to ads from Republicans hoping to unseat the president. Information is available online at www.barackobama.com/truthteam.
For Betras, that likely includes telling voters about Obama’s role in ensuring the Lordstown General Motors plant remained open for business.
“That’s not rhetoric; that’s reality,” he said. “And the reality of it is that the Mahoning Valley has been on its knees and just clawing its way up for 30 years out of a huge job loss. [It’s] finally been given a hand up and a hand out by President Obama. For that reason and that reason alone, the people of the Mahoning Valley should rally around President Obama.”

Does President Obama realize that the word "truth" and David Betras don't go with each other!
Betras is the biggest liar the Valley has!!!
I was under the impression that the words Betras and truth, were not suppose to be used in the same sentence. Except for the only exception "it is the truth, Betras is the biggest ambulance chaser in the state."
Does the title, Truth Teams, remind anyone of novel "1984" by George Orwell where The Ministry of Truth is one of four ministries in Oceania?
Truth in that case was a misnomer which had the opposite meaning of what it was about.
Will the Ministry of Truth, excuse me, the Truth Teams remind the voting public that Obama promised to halve the federal deficit in his first four years?
Compare that to an increase in the federal deficit of 50% over what it was when he took office. Deficits exceeding $1 trillion every year.
Will the Truth Teams remind the voters that that under Obamacare you could keep your insurance, no one would be forced to change, and that the cost of health care would drop. When you can't keep the bread of Medicare on the table, you don't go out and buy a 50" flat screen television in the form of Obamacare.
Compare that to the fact that Obama's own budget director says that Medicare will be broke by 2022, and others say sooner. Or that his 2013 budget calls for cuts in Medicare.
Will the Truth Teams remind the voters that Obama said that if he didn't turn the economy around in three years, he would be a one term president? Or that now he says that things were worse than he thought.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters why Obama said that Bush was unpatriotic for increasing the national debt by 3 Trillion in six years, while he has increased the debt by $4.5 trillion in three years.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters why Obama laughed when he said that the shovel ready jobs, were not really ready.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters how they are going to pay off the $50,000 in debt each man, woman and child owes due to the federal debt?
Will the Truth Teams tell what is really in the legislation that brought Obamacare, or is Nancy Pelosi still trying to find out since we had to pass it first.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters why there are fewer Americans working today than when Obama took office, in spite of the stimulus, the deficits, and the printing of money by the Federal Reserve.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters why the rate of growth for the Gross Domestic Product was slower in 2011 than it was in 2010.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters how an energy strategy to block drilling for oil but to help the Brazilians do the same, is going to lower the cost of gasoline.
Will the Truth Teams tell the voters why the cost of gas has gone from less than $2 when Obama took office to $3.39 a gallon today, costing the average driver an additional $75 a month.
Will the Truth Teams explain how Obama didn't like Citizens United but now is looking to Super PAC's for funding.
You get the message.
Will you believe the Truth Teams
Gasoline should have a four dollar per gallon conservation tax put on it. Cheap fuel serves no useful purpose and promotes pollution. Let's get real and have its use pay the real costs to our environment. Europe has their cost of gasoline in the eight dollar per gallon range.
We should at this time be getting Bob Hagan ready to run for governor in 2014. Obama will have no problem in getting reelected. During his second term we need to exert more effort to bring green energy online.
STOP you have to be the most asinine person to post BS on this blog. If you don't like our way of doing things, do us all a favor and get the HELL out of here . Go where green energy tech is being used. Maybe the idiot in the WH will want you on his truth team.

Message to Stop: If you want to see what Bob Hagan thinks of the use of gasoline, check out his campaign reports on the Ohio Secretary of State website. He has purchased almost $8,000 in gasoline for his campaign.
When I see Hagan on a train, with either a windmill or solar voltaic collectors powering the train, then I will believe in green energy. It is a pipe dream, costing the American consumers tons of money.
Any policy that raises the cost of fossil fuels is pure insanity. The recession of 2008 began following gasoline prices that went to over $4 a gallon locally and higher around the country.
That set off a halt to consumer purchases, first in the tourist industry, then other industries. The final effect was the almost total end to the sale of American produced SUV's and gas guzzler cars, made by GM, Chrysler and Ford. That put a lot more people out of work.
The high gas prices were the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back in our economy. People were overextended in credit, used the equity in their homes to finance a higher lifestyle than they could afford, and when the bottom dropped out, they all suffered.
Now homes are not worth what people owe on them, and the economy will continue to struggle until the bottom is reached, no matter how many trillions the Democrats use to stop the fall.
You would think that people would learn, but not so. Obama, Ryan and Hagan all keep throwing roadblocks in the path of the development of energy from fossil fuels, and call for more green energy, like the electric Edsel, known in trade circles as the Volt.
I say don't let Bob Hagan or Tim Ryan or any politician against the development of our resources use any vehicle that uses fossil fuels.
Maybe that would get the point across.
thinker, EXCELLENT points!!!
Let see if The "Truth team" can or will answer any of these points. To bad that the Republicans don't bring these points out --but then the major (liberal) stations wouldn't air them any ways.
