Early release denied for Canfield teacher's attacker

Published: Sat, February 11, 2012 @ 5:42 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has overruled a motion for early release from prison for a 21-year-old man serving a four-year prison term for punching and seriously injuring a 67-year-old man in a West Side fast-food drive-through lane.

In a judgment entry filed Friday, Judge Krichbaum denied judicial release to Samuel Crayton of Mathews Road, who has served 13 months of his prison term.

Crayton pleaded guilty to the Oct. 9, 2010, felonious assault against Thomas Dailey, a Canfield High School teacher, at McDonald’s, 3034 Mahoning Ave. Saying the attack was unprovoked, an assistant county prosecutor called for Crayton to serve his full term.

I am glad to see that Mahoning County has ONE judge that follows the law in keeping this creep off the street.

The Honorable Judge R. Scott Krichbaum has never had a high tolerance for thuggery. If I were a criminal, I would fear him. Since I'm not, I cheer him!!!

Good for Judge Krichbaum. To gdog4766 -- attorneys don't pick the judges who hear their cases. Assignments are made on a rotating basis and it is purely the luck of the draw, so to speak, as to which one will hear any given case.

Judge Sweeney would of sent a taxi to pick this looser up from jail. Sweeney needs to go, to soft hearted to be a judge dealing with thugs n losers!

Please folks, do not insult the Honerable Judge Kirchbaum in the same forum while addressing "that other female judge" who clearly has poor decison making skills, who should not have the title of "judge" anymore and who needs to step down. At least the Honerable Judge Kirchbaum DOES his job. He issues appropriate sentences and doesn't go "soft" on criminals. We should all be grateful that we, the registered voters of Mahoning County, have at least elected ONE respectable judge who is still reliable, still trustworth and is still a fine steward of the law which was put into place to help protect our citizens. This is a judge who "gets it" and simply does the job we elected him to do. Thank you Honerable Judge Kirchbaum for upholding your original sentence. You are appreciated!

This is exatly what I said on Feb 9th. The day after our horrible loss to the teaching community and the community itself. Thank You Judge Krichbaum for being a "real Judge". Keep this creep in prison for at least 4 years.
