AWL seeking homes for cats surrendered by man who lost his job

WARREN

The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is trying to find homes for some of the 60 cats found in a Pacific Place Northwest home a week ago.

Ken Herlinger, humane officer for the Animal Welfare League, says court officers serving an eviction notice called the Warren Police Department, which called him about the cats. The homeowner had lost his job because of a plant closing, Herlinger said.

But the homeowner has agreed to return to the house each day to feed about 20 cats with food from the Animal Welfare League. The other 40 cats were taken by several other area animal shelters. None of the cats appeared to be malnourished or sick, but the owner and his wife allowed the situation to get out of control by not having the animals spayed or neutered.

For more information about the cats, call 330-394-4122 from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
