YOUNGSTOWN

Five young professionals earned MVP status Friday during the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals’ seventh annual 40 Under 40 reception at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Ryan Pastore of PNC Bank; Trinette Simon of Cohen & Co., Ltd.; Justin Rogers of Mill Creek MetroParks; Matt Kresic of Homes for Kids of Ohio Inc. and Dr. Jean E.J. Blair of Pathology Consultants, LLC all received special distinction from MVYP and The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

“When you sit there and listen to the accomplishment of 39 other people, it’s amazing to be part of that group,” Pastore said.

The five were part of the 40 professionals selected last fall by a committee formed by the CFMV, which narrowed the list to five.

The annual event honors those under age 40 who have excelled in their careers and have demonstrated a commitment to community involvement.

“I just want to make a difference in some kind of way,” said Simon, who serves on many local boards, including the Mahoning Valley Young Philanthropist Fund Board.

All of the MVP winners attributed their success to those who surround them on a daily basis.

“I feel it’s a representation of the entire MetroParks system as a whole,” Rogers said of the award.

The list of 40 names included one of The Vindicator’s own, Joe Scalzo, a sports reporter who covers everything from Kelly Pavlik to Youngstown State University football.

Katie Seminara, former reporter at The Vindicator, also was nominated.

This is a program in Youngstown that well deserves kudos. Even if you don't have someone nominated, it is really an inspiring evening to learn about the young people that are setting the standards for the future of the Mahoning Valley. These are people who don't complain, they DO something to make a change. Bloom where you are planted and be proud of your town and thank you to the Community Foundation for all the good that you do!
