Neighbors | Submitted.Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates donated $3,000 to the American Cancer Society as the result of its "Doctor's Order" promotion with YSU athletics this past football season. On-hand to participate in the check presentation were (left to right) Penny the Penguin, Danielle Procopio (American Cancer Society), Tasha Wells (American Cancer Society), Karen Mascioli (Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates), Beth White (Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates), Jamaine Cook (YSU running back) and Pete the Penguin.

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates, the region’s largest orthopaedic surgery practice and a leading sports medicine provider, presented a $3,000 donation to the American Cancer Society’s Boardman Relay for Life as the result of a promotion it coordinated with Youngstown State University’s football program.

As part of its “Doctor’s Order” promotion, Youngstown Orthopaedic donated $300 for every time a YSU football player rushed for 100 yards or more in a game. During the 2011 season, YSU backs eclipsed 100 yards on 10 occasions, including eight by leading rusher Jamaine Cook. Adaris Bellamy and Jordan Thompson each had one 100-plus yard performance.

Beth White, director of specialty imaging and marketing services for Youngstown Orthopaedic, presented a check to American Cancer Society representative Danielle Procopio during the YSU men’s basketball game against Milwaukee.

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with YSU athletics, encouraged by its football team’s accomplishments in 2011, and most of all proud to support the research efforts of the American Cancer Society through its local Relay for Life initiative,” White said. “We look forward to sponsoring this program again next year.”
