Village officials have selected a new councilman to fill the unexpired term of a council member who was forced to step down.
Before their meeting Wednesday, officials swore in Glen “Marty” Puckett to replace Peter D. Sudol, who resigned Tuesday and continues to fight a nearly two-year battle against cancer.
Sudol served on council’s parks and buildings, safety and finance committees. In addition, he spent about two years as council’s president pro tempore, which entailed chairing the village’s board of zoning appeals.
Puckett, 31, is a superintendent with DSV Builders Inc., a Niles-based construction company, and will serve the remaining two years of Sudol’s four-year term. He is an eight-year village resident.
Puckett said one of his main priorities is to get acclimated to the position and work with fellow council members for the betterment of the village.
In other business, Mayor Glenn W. Holmes announced plans to remove asbestos and lead-based paint from the McDonald Community Center, 500 Ohio Ave.
Officials hope the project, estimated at $40,000 in city funds, will get under way in March or April at the building, which also houses the post office.
