Boardman seeks crackdown on duplex conversions in township
Staff report
BOARDMAN
The township zoning inspector will appear before the Mahoning County Planning Commission in January to ask approval for zoning changes to residential areas.
Anna Mamone, zoning inspector, said the request is to change areas that are now zoned R2 to R1, which would restrict the use to only single-family homes.
R2 areas allow for a single-family home up to a six-plex, multifamily dwelling, she said.
If a single-family home is in a R2 zone, the home can be turned into a duplex, she said.
“We want to protect the integrity of the neighborhoods,” Mamone said.
Trustee Chairman Brad Calhoun said the township has considered this change for about a year after hearing concerns from residents.

HA! They lost that awhile ago.
Boardman is doomed. Look for a 20%-40% drop in home value in the next ten years. More if your north of 224.
landlords themselves should lead the charge & deconvert their existing conversions , in their own self interest if no other reason. The better tenants don't want to live in conversions & they have an ever higher vacancy & problem tenancy rate .
Youngstown should follow Boardman's example . The conversions were only ever a desperate attempt to hold yields in a falling population & property market .
Youngstown & Boardman need to learn to treat their old character homes more as assets .
Wow, if duplexes are your biggest worry in Boardman, you are confused. Leave the Yo out of this, in case you havent noticed we are hard at work converting our homes into 0 family dwellings, geesh...Dont be jealous of our aluminum stripped, plywood windowed facades! The Yo is coming to Boardman, get ready!
