The Youngstown Phantoms Pee Wee AA team avenged two early losses to the Arctic Foxes Pee Wee team by defeating them 3-1 on Dec. 22 at Robert Morris University.
The Foxes currently hold second place in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League and are ranked No. 72 in the country. The Phantoms roster was down by three players for the game, but Youngstown scored first with only 39 seconds left in the first period. Devin Whitaker (Boardman) scored off a rebounded shot by Devin Kelly for a 1-0 lead.
The Phantoms held the 1-0 lead through the second period. At the 8:50 mark of the third period, Youngstown padded its lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Nick Neiger.
The Arctic Foxes kept attacking the goal and finally cut the Phantoms lead in half at the 5:52 mark.
The Foxes pulled their goalie for the extra player late in the game. Youngstown got the empty net score by Devin Kelly, assisted by RJ Pozzuto to secure the 3-1 victory.
Goalie Nick Beck (Boardman) faced 29 shots.
