Obama optimistic on budget solution, but calls for vote if stalemate

Published: Fri, December 28, 2012 @ 6:54 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP)

President Barack Obama says "the hour for immediate action is here" on a deal to avert the fiscal cliff.

The president says he remains "optimistic" that an agreement can be reached in Congress before a looming year-end deadline to avoid tax increases and spending cuts.

If Congress can't reach a deal, the president says Congress should allow a vote on a basic package that would preserve tax cuts for middle-class Americans while extending unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless and working toward a foundation for a broader deal.

The president says an hourlong meeting Friday with congressional leaders was "good and constructive."

Senate leaders say they hope to reach a compromise that could be presented to lawmakers by Sunday, little more than 24 hours before the deadline.

Yeah, he's really concerned about the "fiscal cliff" -- that's why he went on vacation instead of staying in Washington and getting the two sides together.
Why hasn't the Senate passed a budget in over three years when by law they are to have a budget passed each year?

If Obammy is for the middle why does he want to TAX your health benefits that your employer pays for. He wants that to be part on your income and then tax you on it. Is that his way for being for the middle class. He doesn't really care about anyone, but himself and his old lady michele and their two brats.

"The president says he remains "optimistic" that an agreement can be reached in Congress before a looming year-end deadline to avoid tax increases and spending cuts"

Agreement to avoid tax increases and spending cuts? Seriously? Our house is on FIRE people!!!

The president and the democrats want the republicans to put forth a plan to solve this massive deficit and debt problem. The president does not have a budget...has not had one since he took office. Obama's budget was unanimously defeated by dems and reps in 2012. He has yet to pass a budget. http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepav... He wants to "Tax the rich! Tax the rich!" as the solution. Does not want to cut spending...wants a higher debt ceiling. Our president has added 6 trillion dollars to the deficit. The numbers are staggering.

All this double talk about the fiscal cliff and the Bush tax cuts. Oh no...higher taxes if we don't do something about it, at the same time, screaming "Tax the Rich! Tax the Rich!" They used to refer to it as the "Bush tax cuts for the RICH", not they conveniently call it the "Bush tax cuts for the MIDDLE CLASS". I want to ask you, did you notice the big difference in your paycheck when the tax cuts took effect? No.

We borrow $4 million every minute. For every $1 we bring in, we spend $2.06. Every household in America owes $140,000 toward our national debt. A trillion dollars is 100 million millions. http://www.usdebtclock.org/

We are all going to have to pay. The out of control spending at the government level has to stop!

Did you ever notice how the worst president ever Osama Obama always waits until the very last minute before getting off of his lazy ass to attempt to solve a problem that has been coming for nearly a year? He wants us in chaos, he wants America to fall, and the Mahoning valley helped put this fraud back. He governs by committee not by being a leader. His black liberation theology (HATE AMERICA) is the only reason this idiot gets out of bed every day.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Only 2 days left in 2012 and we have a winner for the most asinine, dumbest post of the year! Congratulations to sameolhub with post #6!
