Men posing as snow shovelers invade Girard home, steal firearms

Published: Fri, December 28, 2012 @ 4:09 a.m.

Police are searching for two men who invaded a home after posing as snow shovelers.

Officers said the men knocked on the door of a Miller Drive home about 9 p.m. Wednesday and asked if they could clear the homeowner’s driveway of snow.

According to reports, the two men forced their way into the home and pushed the victim to the ground. The victim said he was subdued by one man while the other ransacked his bedroom and living room.

He said the robbers took a 9 mm pistol, a shotgun and his cellphone.

Witnesses outside said they saw two men run to a light-colored SUV, and one man carried a shotgun. They said the SUV drove north on Atlanta Street.

More gun laws are needed to thwart these kinds of crimes.

where is miller st. and atlanta st. in girard?
make sure we keep our right to bear arms. i wouldn't want to go to a gun fight with a knife in my hand.
guns don't kill, people do!
the criminals would love it if we are unarmed. it makes it safer for them.
i say the punishment needs to fit the crime. if you take a life, then your life should be taken.
stop feeling sorry for the criminals & start protecting law abiding citizens. now!

This homeowner was armed, it didn't help him. If being 'armed' is the answer to keeping us safe, then we'd be the safest country in the civilized world. Instead we're the most dangerous civilized nation on the globe.

Mike, the story says nothing about the homeowner being armed. Having a gun somewhere hidden in the house is hardly being armed. Plus, the homeowner let his guard down, and the two criminals took advantage of that. The story also doesn't mention the victim's age or physical condition. See, spouting half-truths is how you Brady Bunchers spread your propaganda.

9 pm...someone knocks on your door...do you just open it up and say "hello, can I help you?"... OR... Do you have your 9mm in your hand when you answer it?

i have a gun put away but i also have a big pit that barks very loud whenever anybody knocks on my door. so id say to everybody, get a big loud dog if your not gonna answer your door with a gun. most of these stupid criminals will run from a dog! or choose the house that dnt have a dog!
