Clinic will offer free legal advice


A free legal-advice clinic for low-income and elderly people will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the offices of Community Legal Aid Services Inc., 11 Federal Plaza Central, seventh floor, in downtown Youngstown.

Registration will be at 4:30 p.m. for the clinic, which will be staffed by lawyers from Harrington, Hoppe and Mitchell.

Lawyers will advise participants concerning family, consumer, landlord-tenant, administrative and public-benefits law.

Participants should bring with them any documents and information related to their legal concern.

Howland trustees donate to food bank


Howland Township trustees donated $6,743 Wednesday to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The money was collected by township employees during a Dec. 1 fundraiser.

The money will be designated for the food pantries at Bolindale Christian Church on Fairview Avenue Southeast and Howland Community Church on Niles-Cortland Road.

Details set for Coats for Kids Giveaway


The 5th Annual Bob Dean Coats for Kids Giveaway will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at NorthMar Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, 3855 E. Market St.

Bob Dean, Warren Council president, said the coats are given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is a limit of two coats per child. The child must be present, but children do not have to be a Trumbull County resident to receive one.

This year, 3,516 coats will be given away, bringing the total to more than 30,000 over the five years of the projects.

No personal checks for taxes after date

New Castle, Pa.

The Lawrence County Treasurer’s office will not accept any personal checks for property taxes after Saturday.

The treasurer’s office will accept cash, money order, cashier’s check or Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit card.

Any property taxes not paid by Dec. 31 will be filed with the Tax Claim Bureau, and the property owner will incur additional costs.
