Man gets 12 years for role in death of 16-year-old

YOUNGSTOWN

A 19-year-old city man will spend the next 12 years behind bars for his role in the 2011 murder of a 16-year-old boy on the city’s East Side.

Curtis Jones of Maplewood Avenue appeared for sentencing today before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Jones had been charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of De’Vail Fleeton of the city’s North Side, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter in a plea deal with prosecutors.

Jones was sentenced to nine years in prison and an additional three years for using a gun in the crime. He will also be placed on five years parole upon his release from prison.
