Sentencing due for woman who left baby in box

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A woman who abandoned her newborn daughter on a Philadelphia sidewalk just before Christmas last year is due in court for sentencing.

Patricia Crawley is scheduled for sentencing today for abandoning the child in a cardboard box while high on crack cocaine.

Crawley was convicted in October of endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and reckless endangerment but was found not guilty of the more serious charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

A custodian found the baby Dec. 21, 2011, near a pile of trash outside a day care center. The baby was dubbed “Baby Noel” due the time she was found.

The child was put in foster care.
