doctorate

Jared S. Beatrice, formerly of Poland, has earned his doctor of philosophy degree in biological anthropology from Michigan State University.

Beatrice is a 2000 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, and a 2004 magna cum laude graduate of Ohio University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Lambda Alpha, Golden Key and Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor societies. Beatrice received his master’s degree in anthropology from MSU in 2009.

He lives in Tucson, Ariz. He has accepted a position as a forensic anthropologist with Joint POW MIA Accounting Command in Omaha, Neb.

Beatrice is the son of Atty. Mark and Jonelle Beatrice of Poland.

State Patrol

Brent L. Hartley, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, and patrol dispatcher Tamara A. Scheetz have been named the patrol’s Canfield Post’s 2012 trooper and dispatcher of the year, respectively.

They are in contention for the district and state prizes to be announced at a later date.

Hartley, 31, joined the patrol in 2009, starting at the Defiance Post before transferring to Canfield. He previously has won the health and physical fitness awards and safe-driving awards.

Originally from Salem, Hartley graduated from the Bible Holiness Chapel. He and his wife, Judy, live in Austintown with their three children.

Scheetz, 43, joined the patrol in 1998 and has served at the Canfield Post and Lisbon Dispatch Center. Scheetz has been honored with the Post Dispatcher of the Year awards in 2004 and 2011 and District Dispatcher of the Year in 2011.

A native of Canfield, Scheetz graduated from Canfield High School and Youngstown State University. She and her husband, Robert, live in Canfield with their two children.
