Pittsburgh 89, North Florida 47

PITTSBURGH

Tray Woodall scored 14 points and tied a season-high with nine assists, and Pittsburgh pulled away in the second half. Dante Taylor led Pitt with 16 points and Talib Zanna added 15 for the Panthers (9-1). Lamar Patterson scored 13, and Cameron Wright had 10 points off the bench as Pitt won its fifth straight. The Ospreys, giving away height at every position, settled for jumpers, one of the reasons they never made it to the free-throw line all night.

West Virginia 68, Virginia Tech 67

MORGANTOWN, W.VA.

Juwan Staten, who missed 5 of 6 from the floor Saturday afternoon, sank a layup with 5 five seconds left to hand West Virginia a victory over previously undefeated Virginia Tech. The score by Staten, a transfer from Dayton, came 4 seconds after his shot was blocked on a similar try.

Penn State 78, Army 70

STATE COLLEGE, PA.

D.J. Newbill scored 19 points and Jermaine Marshall added 16 as Penn State survived a second-half surge by Army. Penn State (5-4) led by as much as 15 in the first half and carried a 12-point lead into the break, only to see its lead cut to two with 12 minutes remaining. Army went cold from there, however, going more than seven minutes without a basket.

Lehigh 83, Saint Francis (Pa.) 67

LORETTO, PA.

C.J. McCollum had 29 points and nine rebounds, and Lehigh opened the game with a 13-0 run in a victory over Saint Francis. The Mountain Hawks are 8-2, their best start through 10 games since the 1938-39 season. Gabe Knutson scored 18 points for Lehigh, and Mackey McKnight added 13. Umar Shannon led the Red Flash (0-8) with 26 points.

Ohio 78, Oakland 61

ATHENS

Walter Offutt scored 14 points and D.J. Cooper recorded his 18th career double-double as Ohio overpowered Oakland, snapping a two-game losing streak. Nick Kellogg added 12 points while Reggie Keely and D.J. Cooper chipped in 10 apiece. Cooper also pulled down five boards and dished out 13 assists for Ohio (7-2), which had 21 assists as a team.

Robert Morris 66, Hampton 54

HAMPTON, VA.

Coron Williams and Karvel Anderson each scored 12 points to lead Robert Morris over woeful Hampton. Lucky Jones had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Colonials (6-4), who have won three straight games. After trailing by one point, Robert Morris went on a 14-0 run that was capped by Velton Jones’ three-point play to give it a 25-12 lead with 6:36 left in the first half.

Mount Union 68, Heidelberg 67

ALLIANCE

Sophomore Nate Jacubec, a Struthers graduate, scored a game-high 19 points for Mount Union (3-5, 2-1 OAC). Heidelberg falls to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Bethany 64, Thiel 43

BETHANY, W.VA.

Behind a sterling defensive effort that forced 29 turnovers and held Thiel to 33-percent shooting, the Bethany College men’s basketball team grabbed sole possession of first place in the PAC with a win over the previously undefeated Tomcats (6-1, 3-1). Nick Wilcox led the Bison (7-1, 4-0) with 17 points. Chace McKinney led Thiel with 12.

Capital 63, Baldwin-Wallace 63

COLUMBUS

Michael Sommer grabbed a losse ball near the Capital bench and launched and made a desperation 3-pointer while falling out of bounds to give Capital a victory. Spencer Niekamp led Capital (5-4, 0-3 OAC) with 16 points. Kyle Payne led BW (3-4, 0-2) with 13.

Saint Vincent 74, Grove City 71, OT

GROVE CITY, PA.

Grove City missed three 3-pointers in the final 11 seconds of overtime. Isaac Turner led Saint Vincent (7-2, 3-0 PAC) with 21 points and Grant Latus had 19 points and 16 rebounds. Nate Rambacher led Grove City (1-6, 1-3) with a career-high 18 points.
