Submit details on Christmas services

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The list will be on the Religion page on Dec. 22. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Dec. 19.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day services will be published Dec. 29; deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

Information should include the denomination, complete name of the church, address, city or suburb, time of Christmas Eve or Christmas Day services, your name, and a phone number for verification.

Live Nativity


Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman- Canfield Road, will present “The Journey To Bethlehem” from 1 to 4 p.m. next Saturday.

The walk-through drama will re-create sights and sounds of the village of Bethlehem at the time of Christ’s birth. Visitors will encounter King Herod, angels, Wise Men with their camels and shepherds during their search for baby Jesus.

The event also includes cookies, cocoa and crafts for each family in fellowship hall. Admission is free.

The church is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley and 21 WFMJ-TV to bring food to those in need in the Valley. Visitors are asked to bring non- perishable food items such as peanut butter, cereal, tuna fish, macaroni and cheese, dry pasta, canned soup and vegetables. Donations will go to WFMJ’s Project Feed Our Valley.

Boardman High School Chorale will perform during a service at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16. Food items will be collected.

Concert at church


The Singing Weavers will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. The three-generation family group of Atwater, Ohio, has been traveling for more than 40 years, singing Southern Gospel music. The event is free.

Special service


A celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave. Bishop George Murry will officiate The Hispanic communities of St. Brendan and Sts. Rosa de Lima Society of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish will sponsor the event and feature special music at 6 p.m. Refreshments will follow in the parish hall.

About Hanukkah


Rabbi Robert Spector of Rock of Israel Ministries, Cincinnati, will discuss Hanukkah during a program at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bread of Life Church of God in Christ, 702 Cameron Ave. A free-will offering will be taken.

Rock of Israel Ministries will have a display of books, prayer shawls and menorahs.

Musical program


Salem First Friends Church, Jennings Avenue, will present “How the Grinch Almost Stole Christmas” at 7 p.m. Sunday. The free program features the Quaker Bells, but also involves the Adult Choir, Hearts2Jesus children’s choir, drama team, and instruments. At 6:30, there will be refreshments and the “Elegance String Quartet.”

Winter Solstice Celebration


Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will host its annual Winter Solstice Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16. Harpist Kirk Kupensky, musical minister, and Colleen McNally-Harris, soloist, will perform along with Unity Choir. The center serves northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania as a spiritual alternative open to all denominations. The performance is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Advent reconciliation service


Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community, 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren, will have an Advent reconciliation service at 3 p.m. Dec. 16. The Revs. Thomas Eisweirth, pastor, and Thomas McCarthy, in residence, welcome the community to join in a penance service that includes song, liturgy of the Word, examination of conscience and individual confession and absolution. For those who have been away from the sacrament for a long period, this service offers an opportunity to revisit the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Trinity offers Advent devotion


Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St., will have an Advent devotion at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Friendly Bells. The Rev. Jerry Krueger will offer the devotion. A light lunch will follow for a $5 donation.
