Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University will today announce a major gift from Farmers National Bank to help in the construction of the new sports complex along Fifth Avenue across from Stambaugh Stadium.

The soccer field that is part of the complex will be named Farmers National Bank Field, pending the March approval by the YSU Board of Trustees.

The field will be used by YSU students participating in intramurals and club sports, as well as the women’s soccer team, which currently plays at Stambaugh Stadium.

The university anticipates that community groups may use the soccer field for tournaments and other events.

The sports complex, located on the corner of the Madison Avenue Expressway service road and Fifth Avenue, will also include a softball field and track.

The cost of the project is estimated at $4.3 millon. It will be funded with university bonds and private donations and should be complete by summer.

Well, I'm sorry, I couldn't disagree more.
Why does Farmers Bank need more notoriety? We have people & families in this area who could use some of that money to start their lives over. I know mothers with children who have to give up their homes and find an apartment to live in because of how this economy has affected these families. It's 2 years since things hit bottom and families are still loosing their homes. And you want to take 4 Million Dollars and build a park? I know people who have nothing to eat everyday ,they have no food so I take them out to eat so that they don't starve, some have had they're cable shut off, because they can't afford it, 1 paycheck barely feeds 1 let alone 4 or 5. That park is not needed at this time. For anyone to be able to use that park probably has to be in a pay-to-play program and what family can afford to give their child money to play a sport anyway?
Forget the park and feed and shelter the needy. That is what is needed around here.
Thank You

More athletic facilities! Yay! More parking lots! Awesome. Has anyone told YSU that maybe their business should be academics? And that they ought to be a custodian of their city and help preserve bits and pieces of its architectural history whenever it can (and it can, mind you). Whole thing makes me sick. Go Penguins. Whooeee. Get a grip.

Dream,

If someone cannot buy food for their table, they have no business having the luxury of cable TV. Where are people's proirities today? You say "Go Penquins" but you don't want them to progress.
