Uproar follows video lampooning of Pa. capital's debt

Published: Fri, December 7, 2012 @ 2:25 p.m.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The president of a Harrisburg regional business advocacy group is apologizing for an awards ceremony video that satirized efforts by city officials to deal with a crushing debt.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports that Harrisburg Regional Chamber President David Black’s apology came Thursday amid calls from some city leaders for him to resign.

City Councilwoman Sandra Reid says Black is supposed to boost the city, not belittle city leaders in front of an influential audience.

Black is also one of Gov. Tom Corbett’s appointees advising a state takeover of the city. Black says he believes in the city’s future and won’t resign.

The video, a sendup of the 1985 hit “We are the World,” shows people portraying Mayor Linda Thompson and the song’s artists asking for cash.
