Boardman High School’s student council hosted a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross Nov. 29. According to student council adviser, Vincetta Russo-Haber, the student council has made this biannual drive a part of its school for close to 40 years.
Between both blood drives, Boardman High School donated 120-150 pints of blood every year. Every pint over 60 per drive that Boardman donates, the American Red Cross donates more money into a scholarship program that was created to benefit two BHS students who have donated at every drive through their qualifying years, which starts at age 16.
“Everyone says that we have one of the best blood drives; we are really organized and we take this seriously,” said Russo-Haber. “We are very lucky to have so many donors. The student council tries to promote and educate other students about the blood drive. We really want to encourage more people to sign up.”
Boardman High School’s student council will host another blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross in the spring.
