CLEVELAND

Two men who operated A. Bonamase Contracting Inc. of Youngstown are facing a 37-count federal indictment charging them with conspiracy, making false statements and a variety of tax violations.

Scott Bonamase, 47, of Streetsboro, and David Bonamase, 51, of Canfield, conspired to avoid paying more than $279,000 in taxes, according to the indictment.

The indictment also alleges that the company employed 10 to 25 people from 2006 to 2009 and that during that time, Scott Bonamase under-reported employee gross wages to the Internal Revenue Service, and the two men omitted employee payments in company records.

The company also had contracts with government agencies that required payroll records to verify it was paying prevailing wage, and the indictment alleges the two men falsified those records to the government.

The indictment is a result of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor and Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General and the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation agents.

The case is being prosecuted by assistant U.S. Atty. Henry F. DeBaggis and special assistant U.S. Atty. Perry D. Mastrocola.
