One of the four men police say was involved in a shootout at an East Side convenience store will be arraigned today, Police Chief Rod Foley says.
At least 10 shots were fired Tuesday afternoon by three or four men in the Lans-downe Red & White Super Market with at least a half-dozen people inside the Lansdowne Boulevard store at the time, Foley said. No one was shot, he said.
After being identified by witnesses as one of the shooters, police picked up Reuben L. Williams, 32, of Jacobs Road on Wednesday afternoon.
He was charged in an aggravated robbery Friday of a 23-year-old Struthers woman near the store.
Charges, including felonious assault for the shootout, will be filed at today’s arraignment, Foley said.
The motive for the shoot-out likely was related to either “fallout” or “retaliation” over Friday’s robbery, Foley said.
Police suspect Williams, as well as David Allen Jackson, 26, of Cohasset Drive and possibly another man were involved in the Friday robbery.
Jackson has been missing since early Saturday when his girlfriend received a text message from him that he’d “be home in a minute,” according to a police report.
Anonymous telephone calls to police say Jackson likely was murdered, but he has yet to be found, Foley said.
Also, police are looking for the three other men involved in Tuesday’s shoot- out. The incident was caught on the store’s security cameras.
Police say Williams and another man were waiting for pizza at the store about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when two other men entered Red & White, pulled out guns and started shooting.
It isn’t known yet if the other man with Williams had a gun, police said.
One of the bullets went through a glass front door, shattering it, while others damaged food items and store equipment, police said.
The Friday robbery of the Struthers woman occurred when she drove her Land Rover with a male friend looking to buy marijuana on the East Side at 12:05 a.m. Friday, according to a police report.
After leaving a house on Atkinson Avenue with marijuana, the woman told police her purse and vehicle were stolen, the report states.
She got into another car with her male friend to follow her Land Rover; the friend shot at her vehicle with a small handgun while in pursuit of the Land Rover, the report states.
In addition to the gunfire, the friend said he was going to kill somebody, according to the report. So when the car slowed down, she jumped out and ran to safety, the report states.
The Land Rover later was recovered, Foley said.
