Salem Community Theater will present two holiday- season productions, starting with “Honky Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular,” which opens Fridays and runs for two weekends.
This musical revue follows last season’s popular “Honky Tonk Angels,” which told the story of three aspiring country-music singers who meet on a bus bound for Nashville. When they realize they share a common goal, they join forces in a musical act that lands them a long-running engagement at a popular club.
At the conclusion of the show, the Angels promise a return engagement, and that’s what the new production is.
The original cast has returned: Julie Benner as Angela, Amanda Frost as Sue Ellen and Nicole Slavin as Darlene. In addition, a new fourth Angel, Charilee — played by Brandy Johanntges — has been added in a surprise twist.
Cheryl and Gary Kekel are again sharing duties as director and music director, and the five-piece Bodacious Bobcats backup band will return.
The second holiday production will be a youth production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
This show, directed by Patricia Fagan and featuring all youth actors, tells the story of the incorrigible Herdman kids, who accidently get involved in a church Christmas pageant and turn it upside-down, but still manage to learn, and teach everyone involved, the true meaning of Christmas.
The show will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 21, and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 22.
