Payday lender will reimburse Ohio customers

COLUMBUS (AP) — The payday lender Cash America says about 14,000 customers in Ohio who’ve been taken to court for not paying their debts are going to get some money back.

The reason, according to The Columbus Dispatch, is that most of the company’s employees failed to prepare documents properly in legal proceedings to recover the money.

The company said it believes documents show the money is owed, but that the preparation and filing didn’t always comply with court rules.

The total cost of the reimbursement program is expected to be $13.4 million. The company hasn’t said yet when or how customers will be reimbursed for money they paid back to the company as part of the legal actions.

The company operates 120 Cashland and Cash America stores in Ohio.
