Forbes: Youngstown metro area has lowest pay rates

Published: Wed, December 5, 2012 @ 12:00 a.m.

Staff report

Youngstown is No. 1.

Unfortunately, the metro area tops a list on which most communities don’t want to appear.

Forbes used figures from Payscale.com, a site that collects salary and career data, to determine the Youngstown metro area, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Mercer (Pa.) counties, has the lowest pay rate of any of the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas.

The median pay in the area is $45,400, the starting median pay for those with less than five years experience is $36,800 and the midcareer median pay for those with more than 10 years’ experience is $60,400. The rate is based on workers who have at least a bachelor’s degree.

The rest of the low-10 metro areas in terms of pay in order from lowest to highest are: McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas; Lakeland-Winter Haven, Fla.; El Paso, Texas; Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway, Ark.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Columbia, S.C.; Lancaster, Pa.; and Grand Rapids-Wyoming, Mich.

Wheres all the goofy vindy articles that Thugstown is on the rise, housing sales up, blah blah blah. This is the reality here ,not the spin our local officials want you to see. This area is in the toilet with our school systems, our crime, our police administration and city counsil, and the mass exodus away. Our people driving the ship have no clue. Sad but true
