Crestview girls, Lowellville boys win

Ashley Harrison scored 26 points and Morgan Neubauer added 12 as the Crestview girls basketball team beat Youngstown Christian, 54-45.

Toi Brown led the Eagles with 14 points.

The Lowellville boys basketball team jumped out to a 13-point first quarter led and beat Lordstown, 61-51.

Paolo De Pasquale scored 18 points with eight rebounds as Pat Mangine added 17 points.

Bus trip planned for Lakers-Cavs game


Warrior, Inc. has a bus tour planned to see the LA Lakers play at the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 11.

The game will be at Quicken Loans Arena and the seats are in Section 104 and 106.

The bus will leave from the annex parking lot at 5 p.m.

Brad Keselowski vows to lead during reign

Brad Keselowski was his brash and bold self as he navigated the grueling Champion’s Week schedule in Las Vegas.

When it came time to be champion, he absolutely delivered.

Keselowski left little doubt how much he appreciates his new role as Sprint Cup champion, calling for unity and promising to be a leader in helping the series grow.

His remarks came as NASCAR is preparing to launch a new car aimed at addressing the slide in attendance and television ratings. And Keselowski drives for Roger Penske, so he’s aware of the ongoing struggles in the IndyCar Series.

Keselowski said after his Friday night speech that he wants to be a part of the solution in strengthening American motorsports.

Graeme McDowell takes World Challenge


There would be no Tiger Woods charge or belly putter magic to topple Graeme McDowell’s stellar play Sunday.

With a critically deft chip shot on the 17th hole and a close-the-door birdie on the 18th, McDowell won the World Challenge in Thousand Oaks by three shots over belly putter Keegan Bradley.

It was the second time in three years that McDowell, a Northern Ireland native, won the invitational tournament at Sherwood Country Club that benefits Woods’ charitable foundation.

McDowell’s prize: $1 million and the satisfaction of winning his first tournament since he captured the World Challenge two years ago in a playoff with Woods.

North Carolina women beat Penn St., 4-1


Anson Dorrance has coached at North Carolina for all of the Tar Heels’ 21 NCAA women’s soccer championships, and he appreciates each title more and more.

A rare No. 2 seed and 13th ranked in the nation when the tournament began, North Carolina scored three goals in the second half to beat Penn State 4-1 Sunday for its latest championship. The Tar Heels (15-5-3), making their 26th appearance in the final four College Cup, won for the first time since 2009.

Ozzie Smith sells Gold Gloves for $519,203


Ozzie Smith turned gold into cash. The Hall of Fame shortstop sold his 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1980-92 for $519,203, SCP Auctions said Sunday.

The price includes a 20 percent commission, known as a buyer’s premium.

Two pairs of Muhammad Ali boxing gloves used during fights each sold for $385,848. They were used against Sonny Liston on Feb. 25, 1964, and for his first bout against Joe Frazier on March 8, 1971.
