Boardman man pleads guilty to attempted murder

YOUNGSTOWN

A Boardman man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping and child endangering in the June 3 stabbing of his estranged wife in the presence of her 2-year-old son, who was cut on his foot.

John F. Sylvester, Jr., 37, entered his plea this morning before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, who will sentence him at 10 a.m. Feb. 6.

Natasha Frenchko, an assistant county prosecutor, is recommending that Sylvester, of Jaguar Drive, serve 16 years in prison.

Sylvester’s wife was cut on her hands, neck and shoulder in the Jaguar Drive incident, after which he kept police at bay for four hours with threats to jump off the Market Street bridge before surrendering.
