Police have charged a New Castle man with criminal homicide and aggravated assault after the death of his 6-week-old son.
Terrance Murphy, 21, of North Mercer Street, was arrested after his child died Friday.
Police received a call for an infant unable to breathe about noon at Castle Arms Apartments on North Mercer Street. The baby was transported to Jameson Hospital, but when police arrived there, they were informed the child had died.
According to a press release from New Castle police, an autopsy revealed the infant died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Officers went back to the Castle Arms apartment to investigate, and they found Murphy hiding inside a closet.
He was arrested on a warrant for unrelated charges and taken to the police department for questioning. He was subsequently arrested and charged in his son’s death.
