Defense leads YSU past BGSU
Eargle posts double-double; Allen leads team with 15

Blake Allen scored 15 points and Damian Eargle had a double-double to lead the Youngstown State men’s basketball team to a 58-49 win over Bowling Green on Saturday.
Eargle finished with 10 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Penguins (4-4), who ended a four-game losing streak.
YSU never trailed in the contest, scoring the first six points of the game before claiming a 23-17 halftime lead. The Penguins pushed their advantage to 16 points on Josh Chojnacki’s 3-pointer with 8:52 left in the second half.
Bowling Green cut the Penguins’ lead to six points when Craig Sealey scored on a layup. But YSU responded with five free throws to give them enough cushion to seal the victory.
Jordan Crawford scored 16 points, shooting 6 of 19 from the floor for the Falcons (3-4). A’uston Calhoun scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Eargle posted his third double-double of the season. His performance included 14 defensive rebounds. Allen scored 10 points after halftime, including eight consecutive points early in the second half.
The Penguins’ pressure defense forced the Falcons 31-percent shooting (18 of 58) for the game, and YSU outrebounded Bowling Green, 44-34.
After shooting just 37 percent in the first half, the Penguins were more efficient from the field connecting on 52.6 percent from the floor.
At one point, the Penguins made six of their first 11 field goal attempts in the second half.
The Penguins return home to host Geneva at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday at Beeghly Center.
