$14.5M for boy’s brain injury from metal bat
Louisville Slugger and Little League Baseball will pay a brain-damaged New Jersey boy $14.5 million to settle a lawsuit over the use of metal bats in youth games.
Steven Domalewski was struck in the chest by a line drive that stopped his heart while he was playing in a youth baseball game in 2006.
Domalewski is now 18 and lives in Wayne, N.J.
He was pitching in a Police Athletic League game when the batter rocketed a line drive off a metal bat. The ball slammed into his chest, just above his heart, sending him into cardiac arrest. Domalewski’s brain went without oxygen for 15 to 20 minutes.
The family’s lawyer says the money will ensure Domalewski is taken care of for life.

$14.5M....and a terrible tragedy for this young man. I hope the money is not mismanaged.
So why are we still using metal bats in organized baseball? Could it be that metal bats cost more than good old wooden bats?
This is absolutely ridiculous. How is Louisville Slugger responsible for this? Did their product malfunction? No. Why not sue Rawlings because their baseball was too hard? On top of which, no one forces you to play baseball. The parents knew they use metal bats and they know the risks. Maybe you should teach him how to pitch so someone doesn’t jack one off him. What’s next? Are they going to press charges on the batter for hitting the ball that hit him? Or maybe the catcher for the pitch he called that got roped? It's a shame the kid got hurt but I wish Louisville Slugger would have taken them to court. This is why our society is turning into a bunch of pansies.
