UPDATE: 8-year-old killed in East Side shooting

Published: Mon, August 20, 2012 @ 10:14 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — An eight-year-old boy, sleeping in the top portion of a bunk-bed of his bedroom, was murdered when at least one of a number of bullets fired from across the street struck him in the head, police said.

Police identified him as Bryce Linebaugh of 1404 Maplewood Court.

The shooter, still at large, used a semi-automatic assault rifle, possibly an AK-47, to fire 6 to 12 rounds into the boy’s house and a next-door neighbor about 1:15 a.m. today, Police Chief Rod Foley said.

“It’s horrendous,” Foley said. “It’s just tragic. It’s random violence.”

Maplewood Court is on the city’s East Side in Rockford Village.

Three men were shot there on Aug. 7.

Police don’t believe the murder of the boy was retaliation for that shooting or gang-related, Foley said.

“We have a direction of where we’re heading,” the chief said. He declined to discuss that direction.

The injury to the boy was horrific, Foley said.

“They are like military wounds,” he said. “The weapon is one used in the military. That’s why the wound is so terrible.”

When police were called, the boy’s mother told them her son was upstairs and still breathing. When officers arrived, the boy was dead, police said.

No one else was shot.

This is a developing story. For details, continue to watch Vindy.com.

The child has passed away.

As long as the penalties for gun related crimes in Youngstown continue to go on with weak punishment for the perpetrators, these type of things will happen. It should have happened prior to the death of another child, but it didnt. Prevent another senseless death......
It is time to request extra manpower from the federal government and initiate a overwhelming overnight presence in the city, along with a STOP AND FRISK program. Law abiding citizens would have nothing to be in fear of.

So who is protecting a child killer this morning? Someone knows who did this. Why haven't they called the police?

This is awful we should all be praying for this family. I hope the monster that did this is caught soon and put away forever. May this poor sweet little baby rest in peace.

In Harms Way. The parents of this child should also be held responsible for his death. When you associate with drug dealers, killers and gang members the outcome is eventually the same. How many children should be killed as an innocent bystander because of the environment they are being raised in. God rest his soul.

So we have child murderers running around with semi-automatic military assault weapons and opening fire on an occupied house. This is terrorism. Bring home all the troops dying needlessly in Afghanistan and deploy them in Youngstown to round up the assault weapons and killers. That way we save American lives at both ends.

Are we so immune to this type of violence that even the killing of an innocent 8 year old doesn,t scream ENOUGH is ENOUGH? Every citizen regardless of race should be outraged. Rest in peace little one.

This story makes me sick. Why cant we find out where
the guns are coming from. These people like to shoot
join the military go fight for your country not in the streets
of the city you live in. So sad for that little child.

Another senseless murder. The good people of Youngstown have got to band together and take back their city. Surely there has got to be strong leaders among you!!! Come together in a pack and rid this once great city of the vermint.
