Michael J. Midkiff, 42, and William D. Baird, 35, both of of 112 Park Ave., Struthers, are scheduled to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court today on charges of assault and criminal damaging related to a road-rage incident.
Police were called to Indianola Avenue at South Avenue on the South Side, where an employee of Kauffman Tire, reported that he was assaulted and the driver’s window on his truck was broken out at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Bruce Willis, an off-duty deputy sheriff, told police two males in a black vehicle had just broken the Kauffman vehicle’s window and assaulted its driver.
Police talked to Midkiff, Baird and the driver of the Kauffman vehicle in a nearby parking lot.
The Kauffman driver said Midkiff and Baird were stopped at a traffic light at Indianola Avenue and Gibson Street and didn’t move forward after the light turned green. Midkiff and Baird became angry because he went around their vehicle, the tire-truck driver said.
Midkiff and Baird admitted to punching the Kauffman window at the next traffic light but denied punching the driver.
A second witness said he saw them assault the Kauffman driver and heard Midkiff utter a racial slur at him.
Midkiff and Baird were released at the scene.
