Hagan wants to see more of Romney’s tax returns

Hagan wants to see more of Romney’s tax returns

YOUNGSTOWN — State Rep. Robert F. Hagan, on behalf of the President Barack Obama campaign, called on Mitt Romney — again — to release more of his tax returns.

Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, said today the refusal of Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is telling.

“If he’s paying his fair share, release” the returns, Hagan said during a press conference outside city hall, organized by Obama’s campaign.

Romney released his 2010 return and an estimate of his 2011 return in January, and has declined to make public the returns of other years.

Every candidate for public office, especially the highest one on the land, should be required to make a full disclosure of their annual income and the taxes paid (or unpaid) as well as identify, by name, every single donor to their campaign. Better yet, institute what France is calling for: a 75% income tax on the super rich.

Issue #1 – Things to note about Romney refusing to disclose tax records:
No credible evidence of any wrongdoing has been offered.
No one died, or was injured.
There is no subpoena, and no probable cause to request one.
There is no obligation to disclose.
The documents in question are private documents regarding the financial activity of a private citizen.

Issue #2 - Things to note about Obama refusing to disclose Fast & Furious documentation:
Crimes were committed.
People were killed and injured.
Refusal involves defiance of a legitimate congressional subpoena.
Refusal involves failure to meet a public obligation.
The documents in question are public documents, about government actions, and are being withheld by government officials.

Which issue should we be more concerned about, Bob???????

To answer your question, Jerry. Romney's taxes, those are what we should be more concerned with.

Let's compare apples to apples here, and we'll see why the GOP has become the party of non-thinkers.

1. Obama was hounded for over 2 years to release his birth certificate, he finally gives in when he had no obligation to do so. Many of less-stable then make the claim that it's a fraud, and then make up a silly story about his SS#. Romney is asked to provide his 10 year tax returns (as every candidate over the last 40-50 years has done), and he refuses. The same right-wing extremists who badgered Obama about his birth certificate now claim that there's no law requiring him to make them public, therefore no one should even bring it up.

2. Fast and Furious comes up because "people died", and Obama is supposed to hand over thousands of documents when there is NO PROOF that any wrong doing happened (these operations always carry risk). Right wing extremists all cry out for justice. Bush starts a war in Iraq with evidence that was AT THAT VERY SAME TIME being questioned as to its authenticity. It turns out to be false, and thousands of Americans, and around a million Iraqis, are killed. Nary a peep from all but the Ron Paul supporters to release all information concerning the operation.

I enjoy your hypocrisy, since it validates my leaving the GOP in the mid-90s.

Mitt-Flopper hasn't paid taxes in 10 years. PATHETIC! The guys a wimp.

The unemployment rate would be TRIPLE what it currently is had Obama not saved the US auto industry. Imagine how bad the Mahoning Valley would be if GM were closed!

@300

Do not confuse me with a Republican. I am a staunch conservative in favor of a highly limited and small federal government. I am not thrilled with Romney, because he is not nearly conservative enough, but the alternative is too abjectly horrendous to be thinkable. The instant the Democrats separate themselves from Obama/Reid/Pelosi, and start proposing conservative ideas that limit the control of the federal government (as it was intended) I will be voting for them.

I have NEVER said anything regarding Obama's birth certificate or his citizenship status. You cannot paint me with that brush.

With regard to Fast & Furious, there are mountains of proof of mistakes and outright wrongdoing. The only question is who, why, and how high-up; and this is being deliberately concealed.

@ Island Mike

Do you have ANY evidence that Romney did not pay taxes? Do you have ANY evidence that unemployment would have tripled without the divine intervention of Obama? Or are these just matters of a zealous religious like faith on your part??

I think the real issue here surrounds Hagan. He calls a press conference to address something that has no material impact on his constituents.

Bob, the Mahoning valley is a decrepit, crime ridden, jobless, wasteland. What are you doing, as a"leader", to help turn things around?

If Romney paid his legal share, or if he did not has no immediate short term bearing on the area. Do something to help out besides flapping your black gums and sticking your boney chest out.

I wish I could sock you in the jaw as well. That dude must have felt like a million bucks after he did that.

Iran and Iraq hated each other then.
Iran was already being checked by a U.N. coalition.
"Fast and Furious" was started by the Bush Administration.
None of that has anything to do with Romney's refusal to release his tax returns.
Why is it important? Because he plans to make sure that the wealthy in this country continue to avoid doing their fair share as citizens.

Taxes??? Isn't that where they had that Alamo thing?

Fixed Noise Network is reporting that Mitt Flopper is picking Paul Ryan as his running mate. The same Paul Ryan that wanted to abolish MediCaid. Looks like Obama will take Florida and the 29 electoral votes that go with it. Surprised he didn't pick Palin, after her relationship with former NBA player Glen Rice was revealed I figured they would use that to go after the African-American vote. I know that had to go over well with evangelicals

So, Senator Reed is demanding that Romney reveal his past 10 years of taxes, but Reed refuses to reveal HIS OWN past 10 years of taxes, as do many other Congressmen!

So, in other words, this is all political and a double standard. Make Romney reveal his past 10 years of taxes, but don't make Congressmen reveal theirs because it's none of our freeking business! Who is hiding more? I can't believe you Obama foamers are falling for this!

Yeah, Educated Mike, where are those liens, levies and court proceedings, eh?

We know what happens to tax evaders, at least non-democrat tax evaders, they go to jail and have there assets liquidated.

Someone mentioned Hank Paulsen, how come Jon Corzine is not in jail?
How come Warren Buffay is not in jail for NOT paying income taxes for the last ten years, eh?

Why are you not squealing like stuck pigs over democrat tax cheats, eh?

Why not? because you approve of them.

This is such a non-issue. Romney has released the records required under law and that shouild be sufficient. Do you really believe that a person with his wealth doesn't hire the best accounts and tax attorneys so that he can lawfully keep every bit of HIS money he can? That's right, despite what the Marxist at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. believes, it is his money. The tax return I am most concerned with is my own.

Now, Bob, I know the railroad has good health benefits so would you please do something with that pizza-face of yours.

I truly admire any taxpayer, whether they are low or high income, to legally take advantage of all the tax breaks, deductions and loopholes available to minimize their IRS tax bill. That in turn leaves more $$ to invest into their families, the economy at all levels, and their charities.

Well folks, remember the last time or even the next time you have a Garage Sale that money "cash" you make, report it to the IRS . Although this may seem like small potatoes. if you don't report it "you" are cheating the government of money they are intitled to! Thats right cash you get for selling stuff falls under "Other income". Here's the point: for one minute do you think Mitt Romney's income is not tracked by the IRS. Let's face it folks he is such a high a profile person not to be! How many garage sales do you think Mitt has or how many plumbing side jobs or lawn mowings he does for cash. So mabe next year [to bring down the exploiding national dept], we all should report our cash earnings. And by the way that also includes that money you won at the track and or the casino.

Romney produced the last 2 years of tax returns. IRS would be after him if he didn't file previous to that. Put to rest that he "didn't file". His income comes from investment income which is taxed differently from earned income. If we don't like that we would need to change our tax laws.

Most of our presidents were wealthy. Obama is wealthy. I would have more of a problem putting a poor person in the charge of the country than a rich person because success breeds success.

What is "fair share"?

Under the United States' progressive tax system, income is taxed at graduated rates. An individual's tax bracket, sometimes referred to as the marginal tax rate, refers to the percentage of income that's taxed at the top tax rate — not the rate for the entire amount.

The effective tax rate, is the amount a taxpayer pays in taxes as a percentage of total income. The average effective federal tax rate for American taxpayers is 11%, according to an analysis of 2009 IRS data by the Tax Foundation, a non-profit research organization. For individuals with adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less, the average effective tax rate is less than 5%, according to the Tax Foundation.

We should be outraged that the government is spending and borrowing more money and adding to the deficit in numbers that we cannot even begin to get our minds around rather then the percentage of taxes paid by the wealthy.

If we were to take ALL of the wealth of America's top 400 richest persons and apply it to the deficit, we would be able to reduce the deficit by 1.5 trillion dollars. Compare that to the 16 trillion that we owe.

Since the day Obama took office, he has added more to the debt than the first 41 presidents combined.

His class warfare/envy is dividing America. Giving people a hand-out vs a hand-up is not benefiting anyone. His latest stunt: removing the welfare requirements to work which were implemented by President Clinton is one more step to government dependency.
