Latino Food Fest
The Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana (OCCHA) is having its first International “Latino” Food Fest fundraiser on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at OCCHA, 3660 Shirley Road. Proceeds will benefit OCHA’s children’s programs. Nations represented include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain and Venezuela.
A variety of Latino foods, soft drinks and been will be offered for sale. The menu will be a la carte with prices ranging from $1 to $5. Activities include face- painting, raffles and entertainment with cultural dances throughout the day. For information, call 330-781-1808.
Energy assistance program deadline
The Mahoning-Youngs-town Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) Home Energy Assistance/Summer Crisis program expires Aug. 31. Appointments for benefits can be scheduled by calling 1-866-223-1125.
A disconnection notice is not required to be eligible. Income eligible applicants can received a one-time electric assistance payment of up to $250 and/or an air conditioner. Income eligible residents 60 and older do not need a prescription to receive either benefit; anyone under 60 must have physician documentation saying that someone in the household would benefit medically by an air conditioner.

Learn to eat right
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Jameson Hospital, through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, is offering a five-week “Eat Well For Life Program” at the Jameson Hospital North Campus, 1211 Wilmington Ave., starting today and Aug. 23, 30 and Sept. 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Idora area tour
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society, Mill Creek MetroParks, Idora Neighborhood Association and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. are offering an Idora Neighborhood Tour on Saturday. Participants in the event, which is free and open to the public, will meet at 2 p.m. at the Youngstown Playhouse parking lot, 600 Playhouse Lane off Glenwood Avenue.
The Historical Society will provide insight into the neighborhood’s and MetroParks’ history; INA and YNDC will give updates on revitalization efforts in the neighborhood; and the Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA) is providing buses for the tour, which will last about two hours.

Head Start fest
Mahoning County children and their families are invited to the Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) Head Start Program and Youngstown Community Health Center’s Fun Fest on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Youngstown Community Health Center, 726 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
There will be refreshments, bounce-around, school supplies, games for children and physical and dental exams for children.
Also, there will be gift cards for the first 50 Mahoning County children registered for MYCAP’s Head Start preschool program by a parent or legal guardian.
