A 32-year-old Trumbull County man will be at least 50 by the time he gets out of prison for raping three young girls and committing other sex crimes against them and a fourth girl.
Rick Calderwood, who was living in McDonald when the crimes began and in Warren when the crimes continued, pleaded guilty to 12 offenses Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court and received a sentence of 18 years to life in prison.
He pleaded guilty to seven counts of rape, each of which carries a life prison sentence; four counts of compelling prostitution; and one of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
The offenses all relate to four girls between the fall of 2008 and summer of 2011.
The girls were as young as 9 when the offenses began, according to court records.
Calderwood lived with a family in McDonald when the offenses began. They continued when he moved with the family to Warren, said Gabe Wildman, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor.
The compelling- prostitution charges relate to forcing and paying the girls to perform sex acts on each other, Wildman said.
Calderwood was living with the family of two of the victims. The two other victims were visitors to the home.
Calderwood has been in the Trumbull County jail since his indictment in March.
“I think this guy’s truly a sexual predator, and I’m glad we don’t have to worry about him preying on children again for a long, long time,” Wildman said.
