Woman gets jail time in texting fatal

A woman who ran over and killed a man while texting two years ago was sentenced to 45 days in jail Tuesday in Struthers Municipal Court.

Whitney Yaeger, 22, of Springfield Township had 135 days of a 180-day jail sentenced suspended. She is to report to the jail at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

She is also to pay a $900 fine and will be on probation for three years when she gets out of jail.

She must get mental health counseling and perform 200 hours of community service speaking to teenagers about the dangers of distracted driving.

Yaeger pleaded “no contest” to vehicular homicide in December in the death of Campbell businessman David Muslovski, 55.

Muslovski was out for a walk along Middletown Road near his Unity Road, Springfield Township home around 5:30 a.m. June 17, 2010, when Yaeger ran him over.

Muslovski was the founder of a company called Iron City Wood Products, which rehabs and sell wooden pallets, on Wilson Avenue in Campbell.

Tina Yanssens, Muslovski’s daughter, said she wishes the jail sentence had been longer.

“But I think the community service is a good thing,” she said.
