Beringer-Caldwell School, 119 S. Pitt St., Mercer, Pa., will be the site of a one-room school reunion Aug. 19 sponsored by the Mercer County Historical Society. All former one-room school pupils, their families and friends, and all those interested in the history of education in Mercer County are invited. The event will honor volunteers who have helped keep alive the memory of one-room schools. The free event, which will take place from 1 to 4:30 p.m., will include food, music, a look at the schoolhouse and its collections, and more. Cake and ice cream will be served at 1 p.m., and Chuck Thorpe & Friends will provide music. At 2 p.m. volunteers will be honored, and at 2:30 a group photo will be taken. Author Roland Barksdale-Hall will sign his new book, “Farrell,” and its sister publication, “African-Americans in Mercer County,” from 3 p.m. until closing. Books will be for sale, as well as CDs and DVDs of one-room school material. The school will remain open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays through Labor Day.
