Bege Bowers to deliver keynote address at YSU graduation Aug. 18

YOUNGSTOWN

Bege Bowers, who retired this summer after a noted 28-year career as a faculty member and administrator, will give the commencement address at Youngstown State University’s summer commencement at 10 a.m., Saturday Aug. 18.

The ceremony will be in Beeghly Center on the YSU campus. Kevin Hulick, who is graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and political science, is the student speaker.

Bowers earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Vanderbilt University and a master’s and Ph.D. in English from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Before joining the faculty at YSU in 1984, she served as a medical translator in Knoxville; as mathematics/language editor to a team headed by Nobel Laureate Wassily Leontief in New York; and as a teacher of French and English in Darlington, S.C.
