Kids day planned
From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, the Davis YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, will present its youth initiative to kick-start physical activity and summer learning, Healthy Kids Day.
Y’s across the country have the day as a part of their commitment to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
This year’s local event is sponsored by Yerian Insurance and nationally sponsored by Dodge. Dodge will be on site with a “Ride and Drive” event giving attendees the opportunity to test-drive new Dodge vehicles.
Healthy Kids Day activities include a mini swim meet, kayaking, bounce-around, scholastic book fair, nutrition presentations and camp expos.
Community day set
The township’s annual Community Day is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19. The event will have kids activities, including a bounce-around and touch-a-truck. Free balloons will be given to the first 200 children, and refreshments will be available for residents. Community Day will be at the township government center, 8299 Market St.
Animal Charity Humane Society, 4140 Market St., Boardman, sponsors a Stop Animal Cruelty parade and fun run/walk beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Registration for the event, which takes place rain or shine, is at 2:30 p.m., with the parade stepping off at Rosewae Drive and Schenley Avenue on the city’s West Side.
There will be food, a 50/50 raffle, bucket auction and face painting for children. Those attending the parade, walk or run should bring sunglasses, umbrella, lawn chairs and, if you bring your dog, make sure it is on a leash. Those who donate $20 get a T-shirt. All proceeds go to Animal Charity.
