Ring taken from Komara, then recovered with 2 suspects

A man and woman are on their way to the Mahoning County jail, accused of taking a $15,000 ring from Komara Jeweler.

Nicole DeGenaro, 29, of Youngstown, is charged with felony grand theft and William Deavers, 47, of Youngstown, is charged with complicity to grand theft. They are being transported to the jail this afternoon.

Sgt. Richard John, of Austintown police, said DeGenaro went into Komara, on Canfield Road in Cornersburg, at about 12:40 p.m. and asked to see a ring valued at about $15,000. The store employee handed DeGenaro the ring to try on, and she turned and ran to an SUV driven by Deavers, which was waiting in the parking lot, John said.

The store employee saw the pair flee east toward Meridian Road.

“We relayed this information to the Youngstown Police Department, and within a few minutes [a Youngstown police officer] saw the SUV,” John said.

He said the officer followed the vehicle behind the Wine Cellar store, where DeGenaro jumped out and ran into the woods behind the Austintown Plaza. Deavers fled back onto Meridian and was picked up by Youngstown police.

“[Austintown] police located DeGenaro about 20 minutes later and she took us back to the spot where she hid the ring,” John said.

The pair will be arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown at a later date.
