Suspected burglar shot by Niles police officers dies

NILES — A man apparently involved in a burglary at a city home was shot by Niles police officers and later died at St. Joseph Health Center.

According to a police report, at 9:45 p.m. Monday, police officers went to an address on Old Forge Road for a burglary in progress. When they arrived, they saw a man inside the home.

The man came out the rear of the home with a gun. According to police, the man refused police commands to drop the weapon and fired at the officers. They returned fire and wounded him. He was taken to the hospital and died later.

His name and age have not bee released at this time.

You live by the sword and you will die by the sword...in this case it was a gun.

Good job by the Niles Police. Its not always possible to catch the crook at the scene, but a quick response caught him in the act. It's too bad the crook decided to shoot it out, but I'm glad no policemen where hurt.
