Avalon Gardens contents auctioned off this morning
YOUNGSTOWN
Years of history were sold away in just a couple of hours, when the contents of Avalon Gardens on Belmont Avenue were auctioned today.
Some of those attending just wanted to say goodbye to a Youngstown landmark that had been open 90 years while others were looking for deals to continue their own businesses.
The family of James Donofrio, the owner of the tavern, closed the business in January. Donofrio has been missing since late September.
Nancy Donofrio, James sister-in-law, said she attended the auction because it was too difficult for other family to attend.
“He bought this place about a year ago and he had great hopes,” she said.

This is really sad. I wonder if they'll ever discover what happened to him?
Their special recipe for Brier Hill pizza would have brought thousands by itself. Was *the* best in the area.
Their pizza was the best I ever had, but the service was non-existent. I wonder how many people are holding the worthless gift certificates they were selling on-line right before they closed?
@vinglass - doesn't seem like The Av closed out of spite. The owner is missing...and suspiciously at that. Maybe the $10 people spent on online gift certificates were not exactly part of their grand plan to screw people...pretty sure they purchased The Av to make it better. The bigger picture here is that the owner is missing and a family is hurting.
The CG's were for $100.00 and were offered for sale AFTER he went missing
why on earth would a pizza restaurant offer $100 gift cards?! that would be 10 pizzas.
think about that and get your facts straight.
