YSU faculty expresses frustration with lack of movement for new pact

Published: Fri, September 23, 2011 @ 12:36 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The union representing Youngstown State University faculty says it’s frustrated by a lack of progress after hours of meetings between representatives of the administration and faculty and classified unions regarding health-care costs.

“Last week, it looked like we were making progress, and we developed specific proposals based on ideas they had offered,” Stan Guzell, chief negotiator for the faculty union, said. “When we presented those this week, the administration’s representatives changed gears,” he said.

“When we presented those this week, the administration’s representatives changed gears." The gears have neither changed nor shifted. The only constant seems to be two wrench-throwers desirous of jamming up the works: John Russo, head of working class studies, and his wife, Sherry Linkon. The debacle they have wrought trying to stoke their egos will be infamous for decades.

The administration is just stonewalling, hoping that SB5 is not overturned.

umm im pretty sure insurance is ripping everyone off right now. but thats what happens when republicans accept billions in donations from insurance lobbyists in DC. also pretty much every employer nationwide is scaling back on healthcare.

SB5 will abolish college faculty unions in Ohio; as long as that draconian measure has a chance of life, there will be no movement at the bargaining table. So why even both to meet until after Nov. 8? And don't even think about any strike before then.
